Lucy prayed for Saint Agatha’s intercession to heal her mother and it was fulfilled. Saint Agatha came in a vision to let Lucy know of her future martyrdom. Legend has it that Lucy was persecuted and when guards were sent to retain her, she was unmovable, even when hitched to oxen. Also, legends has it that Lucy gouged her own eyes out to deter admirers, and upon death it was found that her eyes were restored.
